Handmade jewellery series based on Onyx and other materials

Onyx is a semi-precious stone which is a crystallized form of quartz, a variety of agate with dark and light bands. Onyx was very popular with the ancient Greeks and Romans. The name comes from the ancient Greek word “ὄνυξ” (onyx), meaning “claw” or “fingernail”.

According to the myth, one day Eros, the god of love, cut the divine fingernails of Venus with an arrow shot, while she was asleep. He then left the clippings scattered on the sand and, because no part of heavenly body should die, the Moires (Fates) turned them into stone.
